Last week we had no classes so I decided to make this weeks blog about exactly what my vision of the company will be. At the beginning of the semester I posted an overview of what I thought the company would become. After working on the website over the past weeks I have a more solid plan for what I want "basketball central" to be.

Through the process of developing my website I have learned not to isolate myself so much. I feel that "basketball central" is a great idea, but it may be to isolated to only basketball which can limit my audience. I think I will try to expand my idea into a website that will accommodate all sports fans rather than just basketball. This way I can benefit from other sports as well. Also, I am not sure if this is clear, but the way the website is run only employees have access to changing their specific information on the site with a core number of employers overseeing the operation.

Another very important thing that I will have to change with the transition in the way the website is heading will be the name. Because I am not focusing on only basketball now the organization will need a more appropriate name. One that I have been considering is "Playground Sports".

Operating Systems

This weeks topic of discussion in class were operating systems. Operating systems are extremely important for any computer because it manages the hardware and software inside the computer. The operating system  can be described as the brain of the computer. It takes all the different parts inside the system and makes them run smoothly. It will be key for my company to have an operating system that can integrate all the devices in my laptop. Since my company will be run through my laptop it is crucial to make sure all the devices run smoothly and there are slim to no problems when users and and employees try to do anything on the website.

When deciding what system to choose there is an important factor to keep in mind which is multitasking. The types of multitasking that I would consider for "basketball central" are cooperative multi-tasking and pre-emputive multi-tasking. Cooperative tasking allows the processor to give some specific times where it gives the computer some time to control it, while pre-emputive tasking guarantees that each process will have some computer operating time. At the start of the company I think cooperative multi-tasking will be more of a benefit to the company just to ensure that nothing goes the way it shouldn't. I would rather know that I am the one giving the instructions to the computer so that it executes the directions correctly. Once the computer learns what processes it should give time to then that is when I will make the transition into more computer control.

In class we also discussed open source software. I wanted to discuss open source software in this blog because though I feel it is a great program for certain things something like this would not be used for this website. The main issue I have against it is the amount of availability it gives to the public. I will obviously allow the public to view the website in full, but I do not think it is a good idea to allow them to  modify or post to the site in anyway.

Bits and Bytes

This week in class the topic of discussion was about bytes and bits. Now this is important to "Basketball Central" because a good number of items that will be posted will be videos. The key thing to keep in mind is how many bytes will each video approximately take up, and also how many videos will be posted a day. We will need a lot of space on the computer to ensure that we are able to upload all the information smoothly.

Before class I was not that knowledgable on different byte sizes, but as we went further into I saw how much of an impact it really played. If you computer does not have enough byte size videos, audio tracks and other things may fail to be uploaded on the website correctly. With this website I would probably use 3-5GB to make sure that we have enough space open. Considering how many videos we will be uploading a week it will be key for the site to be capable of uploading the videos.

I was originally considering 1TB, but the amount of space that comes with this seems a little too drastic for what my site is intended to do. I feel that with 3-5gigabytes will be fine for the amount of text on the site. Because it will be a lot of statistics, excerpts, and little articles 1TB is too much.

Cameras and video

As we sink further into class we are learning more and more about the technology around us. In recent weeks one topic that we have discussed are megapixels on cameras. This technology is something that I can use while I develop my entrepreneurial idea. Photos will be a major part of my because of the capability that is allowed for users to upload their own pictures to the site so it is important that the PPI is correct on the camera.

It is important to make sure that the pictures have the correct pixel ratio because on a website like this pictures will often be printed out and shared around the web. It will be a difficult yet important task for the staff of the website to be aware of. The figure from the powerpoint slides can be useful when taking pictures because it shows the relationship between correct resolution and picture size.

Another thing we would need for the website would be video cameras. We would need to upload the videos from the camera onto the website. These are extremely important to the site so we would get the top equipment to guarantee the best possible work. HD cameras would be required for all the camera men while filming the games. Though we talked about radio frequency in class I can not really use it while my idea is getting started because it is starting as a website. Eventually if it turned into a company and filmed and broadcasted video over the internet for a team or companies then I would use RFID.

Digital Video

Digital media will be key in launching "basketball central". There are numerous benefits digital media will add to the creation of my website. Game highlights can be uploaded onto the site as well as photos, game schedules and other relative information. However, not every computer will allow me to use these programs. In order for me to post videos like these on my website I will have to use progressive downloading.
In the starting of the website I feel that progressive downloading will be the most beneficial because of the cost. It is relatively cheap and easy to use which will be helpful in the beginning. Also, since I am looking to put a lot of information including video and text I will need a lot of memory on my computer. My memory cache must be up to speed to make sure that video downloads will not take an extended period of time.
While progressive downloading is what I will most likely start with I do plan to incorporate streaming into teh website. During big games across the nation that may not be televised nationally fans can tune into "basketball central" to watch and follow the games. This will be a huge addition to the website because I do not think there is no popular website that does this already.

Excel

Excel is easily one of the most useful programs that any company or individual can use in their life. It is a great way to organize, plan and maintain your business. It allows you to make graphs, tables and charts which are extremely beneficial to anyone that works with anything related to business. While we deal with our organization these attributes that excel offers will be used on a daily basis.

While dealing with "basketball central" excel can be used for a number of ways. The spreadsheets that we can use on excel can categorize players and there statistics. It will allow for the up-keepers of the website to keep the correct statistics for the players. They can keep assists, points, wins, rebounds and anything else that goes into basketball recruiting.

Another great thing that excel's organization skills allow "basketball central" to do is inform the workers what they need to do. For example, each worker will have a set number of players that they have to find correct data on so they can put it on the website. This process will guarantee correct information because it will be that individual's job to get the correct data.

HS Basketball Central

Basketball Central is a blog forum for advocates of high school basketball across the nation. As we all know sports in our country are taken very serious and a lot of time, effort and money goes into the up keeping of them. This will allow coaches and players from around the nation to see what is going on from the top tier programs to the ones that fight and grind to win a few games. Bloggers can share news paper articles on team wins from around their county or state for readers to follow. They can also upload cool videos of themselves or others for the viewing of the readers as well.

This blog will be helpful for all players to network themselves in a public way. Players are always trying to find ways to show their skills to their community, and this will be another way rather than newspapers. The reason this will be better than just news papers because not only will you be able to upload an article in the news papers but you can also upload videos and pictures too. Already people are trying to get themselves out their with youtube, Facebook and twitter; this blog can help bring these together because people will be able to upload things from these sites.

"Basketball Central" is an innovative for high schoolers everywhere to get their talents seen by everyone. It is a great idea as technology advances. More people today use the computer than ever so individuals will not have a problem with their material being seen.
